After a period of uncertainty, the second season of idol reality shows Youth With You 青春有你2 is finally underway.
For a minute their fans of the series must probably be worried whether the show will push through or not. The 109 trainees were slated to be trained by coaches Lisa Manoban (Blackpink), Ella Chen (S.H.E.), rapper Jony J with people’s representative and Season 1 winner Cai Xukun. But plans quickly went out the window at the onset of the Coronavirus since the coaches weren’t all able to take part in the filming of the show, most especially for Lisa who still had to fly in for the tapings.
YG Entertainment, Lisa’s management company had previously announced that the dance mentor will no longer be traveling to China to film for the reality show when news of the epidemic shook the world. It was also YG who revealed that filming had to be canceled momentarily due to the outbreak. I reckon things must’ve finally worked out since the show has now been able to set a premiere date.
As they say, “the show must go on”, which is probably the reason producers had to get a wee bit creative to make sure interest for the show remains high despite a filming hiatus with the coaches. Amongst other things, the program resorted to releasing clips of the trainees showing off “what they’ve got” as a way to catch the viewer’s attention. Since the show’s format ultimately boils down to popularity, the strategy was bang on the mark since viewers can now pick their favorites early on.
Youth With You 2 premieres March 12 on iQIYI.
