State Health Director: Two Hospitals In Sabah Have Been Identified As New Covid-19 Infection Clusters
Before this, we’ve just been hearing certain areas like Bangi or Sendayan becoming infection clusters.
Unfortunately for the first time, two hospitals in Sabah have been identified as Covid-19 infection clusters. The two hospitals are Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah (HWKKS) and also Hospital Keningau.
Berita Harian reported that State Health Director, Datuk Dr Christina Rundi, the cluster happened after the staffs from both hospitals were infected with Covid-19.
“The HWKKS cluster also contributes to the increase in Covid-19 positive cases for the Kota Kinabalu district.”
She added that from 42 cases in Kota Kinabalu, 24 were from the tabligh cluster and 11 were from hospital staffs. From the 11 hospital staffs. 8 were from HWKKS. The source of infection is from outside the hospital before coming in close contact with their colleagues. Dr Christina reassured that there was no infection transmission to the patients as all the staffs made sure to wear their PPE whenever they were on duty.
“We are looking at this issue seriously and are working to control the infection to these two hospitals,” she said. One of the steps they’ve taken is to test all involved hospital staffs as well as their family and close contacts. Affected hospital staffs have also been asked to self-quarantine either at their home or Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sabah (JKNS) quarantine centres.
As a final note, Dr Christina advised the public to not be worried as JKNS are working hard to ensure Sabah medical centres not become infection clusters.
While it’s unnerving that hospitals itself have become infection clusters, we should put faith in the government who are working hard to make sure the infection doesn’t escalate. Meanwhile, STAY HOME and if you need to go out, maintain social distancing!
