Universiti Malaya, kebanggaan kita semua…
Yes, you read that right! University of Malaya now ranks 59th in the prestigious QS World Ranking 2021!
Several portals have reported this such as The Star and NST and we’re sure everyone is proud of the university and also its staff who work so hard!
Just last year, they were ranked 70th but in just 12 months, they have managed to jump 11 spots to be in the top 60 best universities in the world. They did it by improving their performance across four of the six metrics used by QS. One of them is ‘citations per faculty’ and UM improved so much, they rose 76 places in this metric!
Other than that, there are currently five Malaysian universities in the Top 200:
- Universiti Malaya (59th)
- Universiti Putra Malaysia (132nd)
- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (141st)
- Universiti Sains Malaysia (142nd)
- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (187th)
Taylor’s University had a huge growth as they jumped 135 places to get to the 379th position! In the QS 2021 ranking, 12 out of 20 institutions rose in ranking while six stayed stable and only two fell.
QS research director Ben Sowter said,
“An ambitious country like Malaysia, will surely aim for research excellence as well as continuing to invest in teaching excellence.”
In the 2021 QS Top 100 Universities, 26 of them are from Asian countries.
- China (six universities)
- South Korea (six universities)
- Hong Kong (five universities)
- Japan (five universities),
- Singapore (two universities)
- Malaysia (one university)
- Taiwan (one university)
