Bosco Wong’s Partner Needs to Be Approved By His Mom
Making his entrance into the industry with a lemon tea advertisement, then 18-year-old boyish-looking Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) is now a 39-year-old bachelor who has a well-established career. Nearing his forties, the single actor has not made any marriage plans yet, joking that any potential marriage partner would first need to gain his mother’s favor.
Reunites with Ron and Kenneth After 17 years
Shaw Brothers’ web series Flying Tiger 2 <飛虎之雷霆極戰> allowed Bosco, Ron Ng (吳卓羲) and Kenneth Ma (馬國明) to reunite again after their collaboration on Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄> 17 years ago. While time seemed to have flown by, all three actors are now accomplished leading men.
With the trio meeting on set after so long, Bosco shared, “Ron is still the same playful guy–we start trading jokes and getting rowdy once we see each other. Kenneth has changed more as he used to be very mellow but is now much chirpier, and often throws in funny quips.” Chatting during their free time on set, the old buddies would talk about everything under the sun. “We would discuss which girl is hotter lately, but we have very different types.”
Most known for his 7-year relationship with actress Myolie Wu (胡杏兒). His romance with model and radio presenter Vanessa Yeung (楊崢) later also failed to blossom, with the two breaking up reportedly because Bosco’s mom did not take a liking to Vanessa. While popular with the opposite sex, the actor remains single despite rumors with different ladies. He explained, “There are reasons why I don’t like to share too much [about relationships]. If the other party isn’t in entertainment, she would not be used to the spotlight. If she is in entertainment, then there would be the question of whether we want to be photographed together or not? It can be quite a headache.”
Other Half Cannot Be Too “Sticky” or Petty
Soon to enter his forties, Bosco, who grew up close to his mom, says he does not have plans to settle down yet. “Maybe because I grew up in a single parent family, I don’t have that visualization of a happy family and my mom doesn’t give me pressure too. My future marriage partner must ‘pass’ my mom first, because she would really oppose if she doesn’t like her. So we must each learn to give in–if it can’t be done then there’s no choice too.”
While he considers his expectations high, Bosco is more particular when it comes to his partner’s personality: “not someone who is picky or petty” or “who often checks on him” since his career requires him to be in different countries and work irregular hours, which would make it hard to keep giving updates, according to the actor.
Earlier embroiled in a two-timing scandal with Rose Chan (陳嘉桓) and Chinese actress Sophia Zhang (張沙沙), Bosco calls both actresses his “friends”. Taking the chance to “complain” about Sophia, Bosco recounted how she had come to Hong Kong for a vacation and passed by Central where Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and himself were working. “She just cared about taking photos with Kevin but not with me!”
Although he prefers going out on individual dates, Bosco would be wary if any co-star whom he just started working with appeared too interested in him. “If I were interested in a girl, I would first ask the whole group of friends out so it would be less awkward, yet we can get to know each other better. I feel it’s very hard to [experience] love at first sight,” he said.
