Drew Barrymore Explains Why She Keeps Her Kids Off of Social Media

Drew Barrymore is opening up about her parenting.

In a new interview, the 46-year-old actress and talk show host explained why she doesn’t post her daughters – Olive, 9, and Frankie, 7 – on social media, and revealed which celeb’s parenting style she models.

“I want them to be kids. And I don’t put my kids on social media, I’m like a f**king Doberman about them,” Drew shared on the Armchair Expert podcast. “They watch TikTok, they love social media.”

She added, “They get in a bad mood when they realize they won’t be put on camera, but they know good goddamn well why, because I’m like, ‘I want you to be kids!’”

Drew then went on to credit her E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial director, Steven Spielberg, who is also her godfather, for her parenting philosophies.

“[Spielberg] single-handedly changed my life. He was also someone who I didn’t realize until I was older was also very fatherly,” Drew recalled. “He calls me his first kid… He was appalled by me wearing red lipstick or when I did Playboy.”

“He didn’t like me acting older than my age,” Drew continued. “And that is how a parent is supposed to make you feel! No one ever made me feel that way, and I didn’t even understand it when I was growing up, and now I’m like God, you really were the only fatherly person in my life.”

Drew then shared an example as to how she follows Steven‘s parenting.

“And he wasn’t mean about it, but he was like, ‘Wipe the lipstick off, you’re too young!’” Drew added. “By the way, my girls can’t get their ear pierced until they’re 10, because he made me wait until I was 10!”
