Raymond Lam Plays a Serial Killer in “The Mask”
Continuing to build his career in China, Raymond Lam (林峯) is challenging himself in every way he can to impress audiences with his versatility and dedication. Trending with his “roaring” performance in Star of Ocean <星辰大海> not too long ago, the actor is attracting attention once again with his emotional outbursts in latest mystery crime drama The Mask <也平凡>.
The Mask follows the hunt for a vengeful serial killer traumatizing the city of Linghai. Criminal detective Ji Fan (Zheng Kai 郑恺) is determined to put the killer behind bars, and joins the investigation team along with leader Xiong Zhennan (Zhong Danni (种丹妮) and forensic examiner Zhao Qingyan (Tang Mengjia (汤梦佳). It turns out the enemy is right under Ji Fan’s nose as a series of incidents leads him to his own family tragedy that occurred 27 years ago.
Playing a serial killer for the first time, Raymond challenges himself to deliver an impactful and chilling performance. In one behind-the-scenes videos, he was in excruciating pain while filming an injured scene. Instead of stopping the shoot, he gritted his teeth and acted in real pain, which was intensely expressed through his popping veins, bloodshot eyes, and full-body sweat.
The realistic portrayal immediately had fans praising, “mind-blowing acting skills,” “his gazes are unbeatable,” and “as expected of a TV King.” Patching up the hole of criticisms he previously received, Raymond is slowly winning the hearts of viewers again with his dramatic performance.
