Tya Arifin Apologises After Netizens Compared Her Hijab Style To A Nun
Tya Arifin became the talk of the town on social media this week for the wrong reason! The wife of Asyraf Khalid, Siti Nurhaliza’s stepson, was recently spotted celebrating the birthday of Dato’ Sri Khalid Jiwa (or Datuk K), with the rest of her family members yesterday (Monday, 21st February).
However, things turned sour after a few nitpickers pointed out that the way she styled her hijab is similar to a nun’s head covering! Not only that, there were some netizens who began comparing her outfit during the event to her sister-in-law, actress Izara Aishah’s.
Scrolling through the replies section, many netizens advised the Indonesian celeb not to go too extreme in her fashion choices, as it may tarnish her image as a Muslim. “You look like a nun. Please study more about religion, Tya, instead of following the trend. Izara (Aishah) dressed better than you anyway,” one commentator remarked.
“Take Mak Iti (Siti) and Izara Aishah’s ways of donning their hijabs as example. It’s heartbreaking to see you wearing your headpiece with your neck revealed. Covering your head is not just a fashion trend, but it’s a big responsibility as a Muslim,” another IG user chimed in.
After facing massive backlash on social media, Tya later stepped forward to issue a public apology over her controversial outfit. As revealed by the “Para Pencari Tuhan” actress in her statement, she had no intention of behaving out of line as what netizens had claimed.
The 27-year-old later clarified, “The hijab wrapping style was made to match my appearance during my father-in-law’s birthday celebration. The theme was all-white. Therefore, if my appearance during the event was misinterpreted by the public, I consider it as a reprimand for myself. I will definitely learn from my mistake.”
Tya later added, “Thank you all for your concern for me. I’ll take the criticism as a sign of affection from you guys. Yes, I’m still learning to be a better person. whatever it is, I am grateful that there are still a lot of people who care and are concerned about me. Thanks to all.”
