ABC Exec Explains Why Beyonce’s Oscars Performance Was Pre-Taped
Beyonce opened the show at the 2022 Oscars with her performance of “Be Alive” from King Richard, but it didn’t happen live.
The 39-year-old entertainer pre-taped the performance at the Compton tennis courts at some point in the past week and then it aired at the top of the night at the 2022 Academy Awards on Sunday (March 27) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Beyonce showed up late for the show, where she was nominated for Best Original Song, and only one photo of her at the ceremony has emerged.
An ABC exec is opening up about the decision to pre-tape Beyonce‘s performance instead of having her do it live.
“It was pre-taped. I think that as you can see, Beyoncé clearly had a really amazing vision for that song, and I think it was just making sure nothing was left to chance,” Rob Mills, EVP Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, told Deadline.
