Kim Tae Ri Reflects on “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” Finale
Reaching an all-time high in viewership ratings of 11.5 percent, the finale for Netflix’s Twenty-Five-Twenty-One however thoroughly disappointed viewers in its unfulfilled romance between Nam Joo Hyuk and Kim Tae Ri‘s characters.
In the finale, Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk) receives a job offer to become a special correspondent reporter in the United States and heartbreakingly made the choice to follow his career goals and break up with Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri).
Fast-forwarding to the present, Hee Do is now married to a different man. In the closing scene, she finds her long-lost journal and finally sees the message that Yi Jin left for her years ago. While reading the journal entry, she imagines herself returning to the cave that they frequently visited. At the cave, they had expressed their love for each other despite the heartbreaking fact that they were not destined to be together.
As many viewers felt it was a shame that the two leads were unable to have a happy ending, Kim Tae Ri also expressed her sadness. She wrote on social media, “Hee Do and Yi Jin are beautiful – who would have this kind of first-love? Their story was beautifully written, and their relationship was both uplifting and supportive. I wanted to keep fighting for them too, such as seeing them get married in the end…. A lot of viewers were rooting for us. I’m sorry – I’m saddened by this as well.”
Although it was not revealed whom Hee Do had married, the child actress who portrays her daughter uploaded a photo on social media. The back of the man, presumed to be Hee Do’s husband, was seen holding the girl’s hand in the photo. Since the image was not seen in the actual series, it appears that this scene was cut from the drama.
