Sultan Selangor Purchases Painting That Depicts MPs As Apes & Frogs
The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, bought an “eye-catching” artwork featuring the parliament of Malaysia. But, if you take a closer look on the painting itself, all of the Members of Parliaments (MPs) are portrayed as frogs and apes!
The painting was reportedly “inspired” by a painting by English artist Banksy. It portrays the UK parliament as a house full of chimpanzees. Photos of the painting were also uploaded on Royal Selangor’s official socials. The painting immediately drew the attention of netizens.
“A work of art that had attracted the Sultan of Selangor’s attention,” the caption reads. “Upon seeing it, His Majesty expressed his interest in buying the painting and hung it in his private study room.” Furthermore, they also revealed that the Sultan intends to put the painting up for auction one day, with all proceeds going to charity.
The social media post has been flooded with massive reactions from netizens, who were mostly left amused by the art piece. Here are some of the reactions left by them:
