Louis Koo is Proud of His New Sci-Fi Film, “Warriors of Future”
A big fan of Star Wars while growing up, Louis Koo (古天樂) had always wanted to produce a prominent Hong Kong sci-fi film. His company spent three years on the postproduction of Warriors of Future <明日戰記>, which is finally ready to release on August 25.
Set in the future, the premise of the film centers around Earth already ravaged by pollution and global warming. When an alien vine invades Earth and is ready to destroy everything in its path, millions of lives are at stake. Hong Kong’s military forces must put a stop to the crisis.
Louis is very pleased with the new movie, and has watched it over 1,000 times! “I want to encourage everyone to take some time to enjoy Hong Kong movies instead of just watching western films. We have a lot of genres other than the usual police and romantic movies.”
Known to invest heavily in projects he is passionate about, Warriors of Future is a special-effects bonanza. “Sci-fi movies require a huge investment, but someone needs to take that first step. I hope we can expand our film genres in the future.” He deflected questions about the amount of money he invested in the movie, replying the quality of the film is more important. “It’s a done deal. The money is gone, dried at this point too!”
As Warriors of Future is his first time producing a sci-fi movie with a Hong Kong team, Louis promises he will continue to improve in the genre. He disclosed that he is currently preparing to film another sci-fi film where the special effects will be even more difficult, prompting him to travel to Japan or the United States for one month to learn about new film technology.
The film also stars Sean Lau (劉青雲), Philip Keung (姜皓文), and Tse Kwan Ho (謝君豪). It is also one of the opening movies for the 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival.
