Shelley Duvall Explains Why She Returned to Acting After 20 Year Hiatus
Shelley Duvall is opening up about her return to acting.
Back in ’70s and ’80s, the 73-year-old actress became Hollywood’s It Girl after starring in iconic movies such as The Shining, Popeye, and Annie Hall.
However, she disappeared from the spotlight in 2002, but decided to return and will be starring in the upcoming horror movie The Forest Hills.
In a new interview, Shelley opened up her decision to leave Hollywood, and why she decided to come back.
While speaking with People, Shelley said that movie roles began to dry up in the ’90s and when her brother was diagnosed with spinal cancer, she decided to return to Texas to focus on her family
“It’s the longest sabbatical I ever took,” Shelley said. “But it was for really important reasons—to get in touch with my family again.”
As for her decision to return to acting, Shelley said, “Acting again—it’s so much fun. It enriches your life.”
Shelley also said that she doesn’t plan on slowing down, and she has a big goal in mind for her future in Hollywood.
“[Jessica Tandy] won an Oscar when she was 80. I can still win,” Shelley said with a laugh.
The Forest Hills is expected to hit theaters later this year. Watch the trailer here!
