‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Broke Three Major Box Office Records During Opening Weekend!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has taken over the box office this weekend!
The animated flick delivered record numbers, and achieved the biggest worldwide opening weekend in box office history for an animated movie, overtaking the previous record set by Frozen II.
According to Deadline, The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned a global five-day launch of $377 million.
Disney’s Frozen II, which opened in 2019, held the previous record of $358 million.
After releasing earlier in the week ahead of the Easter holiday, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was expected to earn at least $125 million, but went on to exceed that by grossing $204.6 million domestically.
The movie also set an animation record for Imax with $21.6 million grossed worldwide, and the movie also surpassed all box office opening records for video game adaptations.
The flick features the voice talents of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black and Seth Rogen.
Chris and Seth both recently opened up about the criticism over their voice acting.
