Married couple freed from drug trafficking charges in Ipoh

IPOH: A married couple were acquitted of a drug trafficking charge at the High Court here.

Justice Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed ruled that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Muhammad Yasmi Mohammad Yasin and Rossuhli Ikhsan, and ordered both to be discharged.

The couple had been charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, with the trial starting in October 2022.

The couple had been accused of distributing 10.9g of heroin and 8g of monoacetylmorphine at a house in Kampung Sri Klebang, Chemor, here at about 7pm, Sept 27, 2020.

When met outside the courtroom, lawyer Mohamad Hafiz Jalaludin, who represented the accused, said Muhammad Yasmi still has one more charge under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act to face, and would still be held in custody while his wife would be released.

Deputy public prosecutor Saifulakmal Mod Said prosecuted.
