Guan Eng denies eyeing Penang exco post
GEORGE TOWN: Lim Guan Eng denies that he is eyeing a post in the Penang executive committee should the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional pact win the upcoming state polls.
“I was the Penang chief minister. Do you think I still want to become an exco member? You must be joking!
“Chances must be given to others. How can one be so greedy?” the DAP chairman said in an interview with Kwong Wah Yit Poh on Wednesday (Aug 2).
Ex-DAP assemblyman M. Satees, who is contesting the Bagan Dalam state seat as an independent, had previously alleged that an “emperor” in DAP wanted to be a senior exco member should the Pakatan/Barisan pact win.
Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong had also claimed that Lim could be appointed as a deputy chief minister.
Lim also described his relationship with caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow as “normal”, adding that they were still communicating with each other.
“Don’t forget – it’s the party’s five-man candidate selection committee who renominated Chow as chief minister candidate,” said Lim.
Lim is part of the committee together with party secretary-general Anthony Loke, deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo, and vice-chairmen M. Kulasegaran and Nga Kor Ming.
Lim added that some members who were not renominated to contest were quick to criticise the committee.
“It seems they have forgotten that it was this same committee who chose them to contest previously,” he said.
Lim said it was during his tenure as the DAP secretary-general that the number of committee members was expanded from three to five.
“This was to allow more party leaders to be involved in the candidate selection process,” he said.
