Margot Robbie and Husband Tom Ackerley’s Relationship Timeline: Inside Their Low-Key Marriage
Margot Robbie and husband Tom Ackerley were business partners before they exchanged vows.
The pair crossed paths while working on 2013’s Suite Française and developed a close friendship before their connection turned romantic. “We were friends for so long,” Robbie told Vogue in 2016. “I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course, we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’”
Robbie and Ackerley became business partners, moving to London in 2014 to kickstart LuckyChap Entertainment with several colleagues. The production company has since released several famous films, including the Oscar-nominated Promising Young Woman and the blockbuster Barbie movie. In December 2016, Us Weekly confirmed that the twosome quietly tied the knot in Australia.

The Babylon actress later shared insight into how she and Ackerley make time for their relationship when work forces them to be apart. “The most helpful thing I’ve learned from other couples in this industry is that you don’t go more than three weeks without seeing each other,” Robbie told The Daily Telegraph’s Sunday Style in June 2016 of the secret to her successful romance. “Being in a long-distance relationship can be really hard when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It can mess with your head, so the three-week rule is key.”

“My husband and I were roommates before we were even dating, so I’m kind of living with my roommate and it’s awesome,” Robbie exclusively told Us of adjusting to married life. “We lived with a bunch of people and now we’re just living [as] the two of us, so we feel very grown up now.”

The I, Tonya star told PORTER magazine that she has “the most fun” being Ackerley’s wife. “Even if we both have to fly to a country in between where we both are for one night, we’ll do it and then fly back to work the next day. And we speak all day everyday on the phone,” she said of managing the duo’s busy schedules.
She added that the couple wanted to take their time when it came to expanding their family.
“If I’m looking into my future 30 years from now, I want to see a big Christmas dinner with tons of kids there. But definitely not at the moment. That’s 100 percent certain,” the Oscar nominee shared.
