Cops deny hitting motorcyclist during anti-illegal racing operation in Jelapang

IPOH: The police have denied allegations that a motorcyclist was hit during an anti-illegal racing operation at Jelapang here.

Responding to a one-minute 21-second video that had gone viral on X (formerly Twitter) which showed a group of people crowding near a police car, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said that there is no truth to the accusations.

ACP Yahaya said a motorcyclist was issued with five summonses for various offences during the operation that ran between 3am and 6am on Sunday (Aug 6) and his father had later shown up and confronted the police.

He said that the man had come to the location of the operation and showed his displeasure at the enforcement.

“He came after his son had informed about the summonses he had been issued with, which included offences for not having a licence, no registration number, no side mirrors, modified exhaust pipe and defective accessories,” he said in a statement.

“The father apologised to the police and was also given a warning and advice,” added ACP Yahaya.

ACP Yahaya said the people, especially parents, were advised to always monitor their children’s activities to ensure they were not involved in illegal activities, which could endanger not only themselves but also others.

“The public is also reminded not to allow those without licence to use their vehicles, which is an offence under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act,” he added.

ACP Yahaya said 30 summonses for various offences were issued during the operation.

“We checked 27 motorcycles and 32 people. A 19-year-old Thai national was arrested for riding dangerously under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act and we also seized a motorcycle,” he said.

“We will continue to hold these operations from time-to-time to deter illegal activities,” added ACP Yahaya.
