State polls: PH-BN candidates still have the edge in terms of support, says Anwar

NIBONG TEBAL: Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional candidates still have an edge in terms of support in the state polls, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan chairman said that polling day is drawing nearer and such support can only be judged based on the decision of the people.

“So far, I can see that there is a wave of people supporting us compared to last year.

“The people’s acceptance has been much better towards Pakatan-Barisan candidates,” the Prime Minister told reporters after meeting with the people at Gerai Perda Tasek, near Simpang Ampat here Tuesday (Aug 8).

He was asked to comment on the predictions that the unity government is expected to remain in power in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan after the state elections on Aug 12.

Perikatan Nasional, meanwhile, has been predicted to continue to govern Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Anwar explained that the rising support for candidates from Pakatan-Barisan was due to the explanation of its policies.

“Previously, we only heard negative things.

“They thought Anwar would take away the rights of the Muslims.

“He (Anwar) will allow all students to wear skirts.

“Slander became a part of the culture, but now the rakyat knows that such allegations did not happen.

“So there has been positive change in terms of support for us,” he added.

A total of 260 early voting centres involving 377 channels for the Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan state elections simultaneously opened from 8am this morning.
