FRU team seen deployed in dilapidated barrack in video due to mistake, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: A video, which showed a team of Federal Reserved Unit (FRU) personnel being deployed at a dilapidated barrack in Klang, was just a misunderstanding, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said he went to the site to inspect the location after the video went viral.

“There was a miscommunication between an officer from the South Klang police headquarters and an FRU officer.

“The FRU team is actually supposed to be deployed to another police barrack at the Port Klang police station,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman on Thursday (Aug 10).

The barrack at Port Klang police station that the FRU team was supposed to be placed, is in good condition, he said.

“I think it is a mistake on the part of the one responsible for uploading the video on TikTok.

“I have instructed the FRU commander to check who was responsible (for uploading the video).

“What the personnel should have done is report the matter to his superiors, not to social media,” he said.

As he himself had visited the location that went viral, Razarudin said OCPDs and police chiefs should have been more alert on such matters.

“We will never compromise in ensuring safe and comfortable accommodation for personnel and officers on ground,” he said.

A 1-minute 14-second video went viral on social media showing a run-down police barrack, supposedly for a team of FRU personnel that will be on duty on polling day.
