State polls: Bukit Antarabangsa candidate turns up to vote with ill wife

IT was a moving scene at SMK Seri Keramat in Lembah Keramat in Ampang when Bukit Antarabangsa candidate Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin from Pakatan Harapan came to vote with his ill wife in a wheelchair.

It is a three-cornered battle for the Bukit Antarabangsa seat with Kamri, Muda’s Melanie Ting and Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif from Perikatan Nasional’s Bersatu.

“I have experienced many elections, but this is the first time for me as a candidate so it feels different.

“All is going smoothly and we have good weather, so I hope the maximum number of voters will show up today,” he said.

His wife Suzana Shaharudin, 52, a former Ampang Jaya Municipal councillor and Bukit Antarabangsa constituency coordinator, who has been ill with gastrointestinal cancer for the last three years, also came to vote with their two sons, Izz Danial, 27, and Amir Faris, 24.

After two weeks of campaigning, Kamri said he trusts that voters in Bukit Antarabangsa will vote for what they believe is right.

Meanwhile, Suzana appeared emotional and overwhelmed but said she was glad to be able to come out to vote as she has been suffering from the disease badly for the last few months.

“I could not move properly; I was in a bad condition, but I’m happy to see some friends here,” she said.
