State polls: Voter turnout between 27% and 33% at 11am, says EC

PETALING JAYA: Voter turnout for the six state elections is between 27% and 33% as of 11am, says the Election Commission (EC).

Terengganu remains at the top of the list with 33%, the EC said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 12).

This is closely followed by Kedah at 32% while the figure was 29% in Penang, 28% in Selangor, 27% in Negri Sembilan and 26% in Kelantan.

For the Kuala Terengganu by-election which is being held on the same day, voter turnout was at 30% as of 11am.

In GEORGE TOWN, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said the turnout in Air Putih was about 10% lower than in GE15.

“This was the situation in the early morning. We urge more voters to exercise their right to determine the next state government.

“It is still early, and we hope more will vote.

“However, the spirit is there. Renowned composer and conductor Datuk Seri Ooi Chean See returned from Germany just to cast her vote at Seri Delima,” Lim said when met here.

Lim, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying and their mother Neo Yok Tee, 83, voted at SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian at about 10am.

He is contesting in Air Putih against Parti Rakyat Malaysia candidate Teh Yee Cheu and Perikatan Nasional’s Kong Cheng Ann.
