State polls: Idris Jusoh calls for Zahid’s resignation after Umno’s losses

PETALING JAYA: Former Terengganu Umno chief Tan Sri Idris Jusoh has called on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign following the party’s crushing losses in Saturday’s state polls.

The former Terengganu mentri besar urged Ahmad Zahid to take responsibility for the party’s poor performance especially after they were completely swept away by Perikatan Nasional in Terengganu.

“Umno lost badly in state elections yesterday, losing 100% of the seats in Terengganu.

“Ahmad Zahid must resign,” the veteran Umno member wrote on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 13).

This comes after Barisan Nasional, which Umno is part of, only managed to capture 19 of the 108 seats they contested across the six state elections of Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu.

Of the 19 seats they managed to win, not a single seat was from Terengganu despite previously capturing 10 of the 32 state seats in the previous 14th general election.

This included losses by big names such as current Terengganu Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said who failed to defend his Kijal state seat after losing by a 3,758 majority to Perikatan’s Razali Idris who polled 13,403 votes.
