10 Penang exco members sworn in

GEORGE TOWN: Ten Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional assemblymen were sworn in as Penang executive council members before Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on Wednesday (Aug 16).

The ceremony started with Batu Maung assemblyman Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, 49, who had been made the Islamic development, education and national unity committee chairman.

Four-term Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo, 52, will hold the human capital development, science and technology committee portfolio.

Mohamad and Jagdeep were also sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister I and II respectively.

Mohamad from PKR and Jagdeep from DAP replace Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin and P Ramasamy who had not been named as candidates to contest in the recently-concluded state elections.

Present during the ceremony were State Secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar and state assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang.

A total of 11 assemblyman were appointed to executive council portfolios, including Chow Kon Yeow, Mohamad and Jagdeep.

Chow will hold the finance; economic development; and land and communications portfolios.

Six new faces have been appointed as exco members including Sungai Acheh assemblyman Rashidi Zinol from Umno.

The remaining six new representatives who were appointed exco members were Lim Siew Khim (Sungai Pinang), H’ng Mooi Lye (Jawi), Gooi Zi Sen (Padang Lalang), Datuk Seri S Sundarajoo (Prai), all from DAP; and Fahmi Zainol (Pantai Jerejak) from PKR.

Zairil Khir Johari (Tanjong Bunga) and Wong Hon Wai (Paya Terubong), both from DAP, were also appointed exco members.
