Cops investigating viral Islamic prayer incident

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating an incident where an Islamic prayer was read out at an event where people of other faiths also said prayers.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a report was lodged on the matter on Aug 22.

“However, the investigation is being carried out by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT),” he told a press conference at the KL police headquarters on Friday (Aug 25).

He reminded the public not to speculate on the matter until the investigation is concluded as it could disrupt peace and public order.

It was reported that the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) was also investigating the matter to confirm the act did not contain any elements that went against Islamic teachings or “fatwa”.

A video of the event went viral on Facebook recently.

Meanwhile on another matter, Comm Allaudeen said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had taken action against the organisers of an event after a video of scantily-clad women belly dancing during the event in Bukit Bintang went viral recently.

“DBKL has taken action which includes closing the premises,” he said.
