Cops confirm they are investigating Hadi over comments

JOHOR BARU: Police have confirmed that they are investigating PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for questioning the authorisation of the Pardons Board.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Abdul Hadi had made such a statement during a ceramah at PAS Bakri division headquarters on Saturday (August 26).

“Bukit Aman is investigating the matter under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or three years imprisonment or both upon conviction.

“We would like to remind the public not to touch on 3R (royalty, religion and race) to ensure public safety and order.

“Actions would be taken against anyone regardless of their political affiliation if they touch on the matter,” he added.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said this in a statement here on Monday (August 28).

Abdul Hadi had allegedly questioned the authorisation of the Pardons Board during a ceramah held in conjunction with Simpang Jeram by-election.

He said in Islam, only the victims could pardon and forgive the accuser.

“Not the Pardons Board where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister and Attorney General are its members.

“In Islam, the accuser has to seek forgiveness from the victim, but if the victim dies then the accuser has to seek pardon from the victim’s parents, siblings or next of kin,” he added.
