Body of Filipino crewman recovered off Pulau Tengah, Klang

KLANG: The body of 57-year-old Filipino crewman Peligres Jaime Langusta has been recovered in waters off Pulau Tengah on Friday (Sept 1).

Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director (operations) Maritime Commander Mohd Sharenliza Ghazali said Langusta’s body was spotted by a maritime patrol at about 9.26am.

“The body was then transported to the Police Marine base in Pulau Indah before being sent to Hospital Banting for further action.

“An agent from Eco Galaxy ship identified the body as Peligres Jaime Langusta, who fell overboard while in the midst of lowering the pilot ladder on Tuesday (Aug 29),” he said in a statement.

With the discovery of the body, the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was officially concluded at 1.13pm on Friday.

“Several agencies were involved in the operation including the Marine Police and Fire and Rescue Department. We urge the public, especially the maritime community to prioritise safety before conducting any activity at sea and also be mindful of the weather,” he said.

Those facing distress or any emergency situation in Selangor waters can contact Selangor MMEA at 03-21760627 or MERS 999.

It was previously reported that the victim was assigned to lower the pilot ladder on a ship when he fell overboard on Tuesday.

Cmdr Mohd Sharenliza had said the crew of the nearby boat threw a lifebuoy and life jackets to the victim but he could not grab hold of them.

“The crew of the other boat also dived into the sea to help the victim but he (was swept away) by the storm and strong wind,” he added
