Heavy traffic expected on major roads in JB due to school holiday in Singapore

JOHOR BARU: The traffic condition on the major roads around the city here is expected to be congested, especially during peak hours following the school holiday season in Singapore.

The holiday that started on Sept 2 would continue until Sept 10 next week.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that police have deployed 40 traffic officers and personnel members to help manage and ensure a smooth flow in the city.

“We have also placed our men in 14 hotspots around the city centre, including the Causeway, to oversee and control the flow.

“We have also increased our surveillance and monitoring patrol through our Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) and the Motorcycle Patrol (URB) units,” he said when contacted here on Monday (Sept 4).

Members of the public and road users are advised to always adhere to the road rules to avoid any unwanted incidents, he added.

Meanwhile, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, in a statement posted on his Facebook account, said that he had recently visited the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) in Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) here and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Gelang Patah to oversee the matter.

“I visited both places last Friday (Sept 1) following the school holiday season.

“I hope that the increase in Immigration Department manpower at the end of this month (September) will help reduce the congestion issues while waiting for the contra lane project to be completed,” he said.
