‘One Piece’ Showrunner Reveals The One Thing That Will Never Ever Happen On The Show
One Piece is taking over Netflix and a lot of manga fans are here for it.
Many have even caught on to the palpable chemistry between Emily Rudd and Mackenyu, who play Nami and Zoro. However, anything further than a friendship just isn’t in the cards.
In a new interview with TVLine, showrunner Steven Maeda revealed there was a no romance rule in creator Eiichiro Oda‘s conditioned when the manga was adapted to a live action series.
“One of the mandates from [manga creator] Eiichiro Oda was against romance on the crew,” Steven shared. “That is a hard no, as far as the manga and the live-action show are concerned.”
The chemistry between Mackenyu and Emily was just a thing that happened, but it will never turn into anything more for the characters.
“It was because they just had great chemistry together, but that certainly was not the intent. One of the fun things about watching television is what you read into it and what you bring to the table when you’re watching a show.”
Casting the characters of One Piece was actually pretty difficult. Find out why.
