The Great British Baking Show Will Not Have Any National Themes This Season
The Great British Baking Show is learning from its past, and has opted not to have any national themes in the upcoming season at all.
If you recall, the show was called out last year over its’ Mexican-themed week.
The challenges of the week included pan dulce, tacos and tres leches cake, but what fans were more offended by were the visuals, which included hosts wearing sarapes and sombreros, on top of mispronunciations of dishes.
In a new interview, producer Kieran Smith confirmed that the show would be skipping themes in line with that.
Speaking to The Guardian, he said that “we’re not doing any national themes this year. We didn’t want to offend anyone, but the world has changed and the joke fell flat.”
Instead, Kieran stated that “we’re doing all the regular weeks: cakes, biscuits, bread, patisserie, chocolate, plus party cakes is a new theme. No spoilers, but it features challenges I think viewers will love.”
The Great British Baking Show is set to debut on U.K.’s Channel 4 soon, and it’s premiere on Netflix is still to be determined.
