Muda to rethink its presence in unity govt following Zahid’s DNAA, says Syed Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: Muda will re-evaluate its position in the unity government after the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman told a press conference at Muda’s office on Tuesday (Sept 5) that one of the greatest “red lines” had been crossed.

“Therefore, Muda will not hesitate to evaluate its position in the unity government,” he added.

Party secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi also said that cases involving politicians and public funds should not be dropped.

“In fact, we urge for there to be no discharges – including the case of the Muda president,” he said in reference to Syed Saddiq’s ongoing graft trial.

“Will this be done to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s case as well?” he questioned.

Muda also launched the #DakwaZahid campaign, with Amir saying the party will stage a protest if its demands are not met.

The party listed three demands: an explanation from the Attorney General’s Chambers in Parliament on the decision to grant a DNAA after the High Court had decided there was a prima facie case; for the executive powers of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor to be separated immediately; and for the Public Prosecutor to once again charge Ahmad Zahid.

On Monday (Sept 4), the High Court granted a DNAA to Ahmad Zahid for all 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
