KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah’s Yee Tsai Yiew (pic) has been appointed as a special officer to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Yee, who was a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate in the 15th General Election, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for entrusting her with the appointment.

She said it was a testimony of the Chief Minister’s emphasis on the importance of empowering youth, especially women, in social service.

“I will do my utmost to ensure that my work contributes to the development and prosperity of Sabah,” Yee, a lawyer, said on Tuesday (Sept 5).

She hoped her appointment will lead to more women participating in social governance and politics, bringing new perspectives and approaches.

Upon her appointment, Yee will be leaving for Beijing from Thursday (Sept 7) to Sept 27 to attend a seminar on Capability Building for Female Officials Participating in Social Management from Developing Countries, as the state government representative.

The seminar, organised by the China Women’s University, will offer valuable experiences and insights on women’s participation in the economic and social development of developing countries.

In the last general election, Yee came in third in a five-way fight for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat.

Pakatan Harapan’s Chan Foong Hin won the seat after collecting 31,359 votes while Parti Warisan’s Amanda Yeo polled 7,576 votes, with Yee garnering 4,592 votes.
