Unity of Bangsa Johor is topmost priority, Umno leader says ahead of by-elections

MUAR: All 11 Umno polling district centres in Simpang Jeram will continue to protect the people from negative influences that will disturb the unity of Bangsa Johor, says the state Umno Youth chief.

Noor Azleen Ambros said the Umno and Barisan Nasional election machinery in the Bakri parliamentary constituency and northern parts of the state have also thrown their support behind unity government candidate Nazri Abdul Rahman.

“Our election machinery conducted a meeting in Bakri last night (Monday, Sept 4) where we came to an agreement to do all we could to woo votes from the locals in Simpang Jeram.

“We will continue to approach and persuade them together with our election machinery from 11 district centres until polling day on Sept 9 – this is our promise.

“We also agreed to protect Johor from any outside influence that is trying to break our unity as Bangsa Johor, regardless of the colour of their ‘wave’,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 5).

Noor Azleen, who is also the Johor Barisan Youth chief, added that the values of Bangsa Johor togetherness and the Islamic principles taught at religious schools in the state will continue to be adhered to strictly.

“We are not the product of the Islamic teachings ‘owned’ by any political parties.

“We also agreed that Simpang Jeram should be represented by those who are from the unity government to ensure that the Maju Johor agenda introduced by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will be realised.

“This is because in Johor, the people can think rationally to choose achievement and performance, rather than being bogged down by sentiment and perception,” he added.

By-elections for the Simpang Jeram state seat and Pulai parliamentary seat were called following the death on July 23 of their elected representative Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was Amanah deputy president and domestic trade and cost of living minister.
