Donnie Yen Apologises For His Over-The-Top Security That Angered A Lot Of People When He Showed Up For An Event In China

For starters, there was hardly a crowd to warrant such tight security. Also, it didn’t help that the bodyguards behaved aggresively.

Hong Kong action superstar Donnie Yen, 60, is one of the most famous and well-loved actors in the world.

One would expect him to be mobbed by fans wherever he goes. We guess his team thought that would happen too when he was in Shenyang for an event last week.

Donnie was seen walking along the streets of Shenyang surrounded by a whole bevy of bodyguards.

However, it seemed like only a handful of people were interested in catching a glimpse of the Ip Man star that day.

That didn’t stop Donnie’s security team from acting like there was a crowd.

A clip of Donnie and his entourage from that day showed his bodyguards linking their hands to form a human barricade around the star as he walked.

The event staff members could also be heard aggressively yelling “stand aside”… to no one in particular.

Donnie himself didn’t seem to mind being approached and was seen happily high-fiving a man.

It begs the question: Was it necessary for his security to be so overprotective, or in this case, overbearing?

Donnie’s security, including a female staff member who repeatedly shouted at passers-by to “stand aside”, could totally use a chill pill

The clip quickly went viral, with many criticising Donnie’s team for being rude and dramatic, especially so since there was hardly a crowd to warrant such tight security.

Donnie was more than happy to high-five his fan. P.S. most of the people you see in this pic are his security team.

Donnie has since released a statement addressing the situation.

He said he was “extremely surprised” by the level of security that day, adding that he “never requested for such arrangements”.

“Thanks to everyone who criticised the ‘ostentatious arrangement’, and for sharing the pictures and clips of what happened. Like all of you, I didn’t like how [things were done]. I also agree with everyone’s view, and understand why you reacted the way you did,” wrote Donnie.

He then spoke up for the security team who were at the receiving end of most of the criticism, saying they were just  “working hard at their jobs”.

“I apologise to all the people in Shenyang who were inconvenienced and made uncomfortable by the commotion that day,” concluded Donnie.
