Zahid leaving it to AG to explain DNAA

BATU PAHAT: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he will leave it to the Attorney General (AG) to explain the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to him.

“As the person involved (in the case), I do not have the right to comment but I have full confidence in the new AG and the DPP to give an explanation if necessary.

“The 11 reasons (why the DNAA should be granted) that were presented to the High Court was enough as the court has made its decision,” the Deputy Prime Minister said to reporters after officiating the women entrepreneurship carnival at the Batu Pahat Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) here on Friday (Sept 8).

Zahid was asked about the criticism surrounding the decision to grant him a DNAA for all 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB) funds by the High Court after Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar applied for the charges to be dropped on Monday (Sept 4).

The charges were first brought against him by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with alleged misuse of funds regarding his charitable foundation YAB.

Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah in his judgment said the High Court made the decision after considering both arguments by the prosecution and the defence team.

On Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s comment on “invisible hands” behind the DNAA, Ahmad Zahid said that there is no such thing.

“Maybe there are ‘invisible hands’ in Kedah. I hope that he is able to do his job well and solve the issues faced by the people of Kedah.

“Do not just make empty promises during state elections,” he said.

Muhammad Sanusi reportedly told Pulai and Simpang Jeram voters not to support the unity government as there were “invisible hands” in the cases involving Ahmad Zahid and Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
