36 couples in Ipoh exchange vows on auspicious 9.9 date

IPOH: A total of 36 couples exchanged their vows during a mass wedding registration ceremony at the Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association hall in conjunction with the auspicious 9.9 date.

While most couples came dressed in white dresses and black suits, some were dressed in shirts during the ceremony held on Saturday (Sept 9).

Among the couples present were Law Zhe Sheun, a sales advisor; and his sales and marketing executive bride, Chu Su Yee, both 27.

The couple, who are both working in Singapore have been friends since college.

Law said both of them had studied at a college in Sarawak, and had met there in 2015.

“However, once college was over, we parted ways. She went back to her hometown in Sabah, and I came back to Ipoh.

“Then, after a few years, she forwarded me a message on my WeChat account, and we started to keep in touch once again, and the rest is history,” he said.

For Yong Yi Ting, 25, a make-up artist; and her groom, Yang Der Lih, 38, a businessman, she said they met through some mutual friends.

“It has been over a year since I got to know him. We went out for some time to get to know one another better before deciding to tie the knot.

“One fine day, there was just this spark between us, and that is when we decided that we love each other,” she added.

As for restaurant chef Leong Chee Wah, 40, and his hairstylist wife Choy Chuy Yeng, 34, they became friends on a social media site.

“It was definitely love at first sight for me, but she was extremely shy, and it took her time to confess her love for me.

“So after going out for three years, getting to know one another better, finally she accepted my proposal,” he said, adding that their traditional wedding dinner would be held on Saturday.

Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association president Datuk Ooi Foh Sing wished all the couples a happy married life together.

He said this auspicious date symbolises longevity or eternity in Chinese.

“What is also important is to respect one another, and not to forget the most important thing, that is for the couples to respect their parents and family members,” he added.
