Follow the law or face consequences, Deputy IGP tells Sept 16 protesters

IPOH: Stern action will be taken against the organisers of a planned rally over Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on graft charges if they do not follow the law, says Comm Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police said any party that wished to hold such gatherings must apply for a permit from the police five days prior to a rally.

“In the permit application, the organisers must get permission from the owner of the premises, or the area concerned, and today (Monday, Sept 11) is the last day for them to apply for the permit.

“Concerning the planned rally on Saturday (Sept 16), I am made to understand that the area concerned is in front of the Sogo shopping mall.

“Thus besides the police permit, the applicant must also get the green light from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), as well as the Sogo management,” he told reporters after launching the Police Air Wing operations unit training base’s 44th anniversary event here on Monday.

Comm Ayob Khan added that if the organisers failed to adhere to the rules and regulations, then action stipulated within the law would be taken against them.

On Sunday (Sept 10), Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the movement would hold a peaceful assembly in front of a shopping mall at 2pm on Sept 16 as part of its “Save Malaysia” movement.
