Committee formed to look into Dhamma Sakyamuni Caves Monastery, says Perak MB

IPOH: A special committee has been formed to look into the case involving the Dhamma Sakyamuni Caves Monastery, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).

The Perak Mentri Besar said the committee will see what can be done and added that it will be led by state national integration committee chairman A. Sivanesan

“Since the decision was under the court’s jurisdiction, we cannot simply share any interpretation. Sivanesan will meet with the representatives of the monastery and the cement manufacturers to listen to both parties,” he said.

Saarani told reporters this after attending the Karnival Mesra Anak Muda (Youth Carnival) at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Sunday (Sept 17).

He said the state will try to handle the case according to the law.

The Court of Appeal had on Sept 5 reversed the Ipoh High Court’s decision, allowing cement manufacturer Associated Pan Malaysia Cement to evict the century-old Buddhist monastery in Kanthan, Chemor.

The three-member bench of the appellate court had said that the monastery had failed to raise any triable issues to prevent the eviction order.

Last October, the High Court dismissed the cement company’s application to evict the monastery.
