Taiwanese Celeb Yuri Huang Told Skeptical US Customs Officer “I Am A Star”; Now Too Embarrassed To Return To The States

We’ve all had awkward conversations with customs officers. You want to play it cool yet honest, basically avoid saying anything that might get you detained.

Taiwanese celeb sisters Yuri Huang (formerly known as Yao Yao but not to be confused with Zong Zijie’s rumoured girlfriend), 37, and Apple Huang, 39, were anything but cool when they visited the US.

In a recent episode of Taiwanese variety show Chop Chop Show, the sisters, who were both members of Blackie Chen’s Blackie’s Teenage Club back in the noughties, recalled how they were stopped at the US customs during a holiday.

When asked for her profession, Yuri said in her limited English: “I am a star”.

Seeing that the officer was confused by what Yuri said, Apple then explained that they are “TV stars”.

Not that it helped.

The officers then started questioning the sisters on who bought them their tickets.

In the end, Yuri had to search for photos of them at the TV station to prove that they are indeed celebrities for the officers to let them through.

Yuri said she is still traumatised by what happened.

“I think that will be the only time in my life that I’ll go to the US,” she said. “I don’t think I can go again, because there really is a language barrier!”
