Man suffers 30% burns, 12 motorcycles damaged in blast at KL apartment

KUALA LUMPUR: A man suffered 30% burns to his body while 12 motorcycles were damaged following an explosion and fire at the Desa Tun Razak Apartments here on Thursday (Oct 6) night.

A City Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said they received the distress call at 10.59pm on Thursday.

“We deployed 16 personnel and four fire engines from the Sungai Besi and Bandar Tun Razak stations.

“Upon arrival, we were informed that there was a fire in a house on the 10th floor of Block 4 of the apartments, believed to be caused by a gas leak that led to an explosion,” he said in a statement.

The spokesman added that the explosion also affected two other apartments located nearby.

“One victim, a 32-year-old man, suffered 30% burns to his body.

“The victim was then sent to Chancellor Tuanku Muhriz University Medical Centre and reported to be in the red zone of the hospital’s emergency department,” the spokesman said.

He also said the explosion caused part of the kitchen wall to collapse and damage 12 motorcycles.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” the spokesman added.
