Ji Chang Wook Triumphs “The Worst of Evil” As Undercover Cop
Disney Plus’ The Worst of Evil aired its fifth episode last week. Ji Chang Wook and Wi Ha Joon double up in the new riveting crime drama about 1990s drug cartels in South Korea.
A new crime boss began to sell a new powerful drug nicknamed “Gangnam Crystal” in nightclubs. Since the police knew little about the source of such drugs, Park Jun Mo (Ji Chang Wook) is sent undercover to crack down on the rampant drug trafficking organization. In the process, he befriends the Gangnam Union leader Jung Gi Cheul (Wi Ha Joon).
Park Jun Mo unexpectedly discovers his wife Yoo Eui Jeong (Im Se Mi), who is also a police detective, volunteered to join this dangerous mission. She turns out to be the Gangnam Union leader’s first love. The crime boss launches an extensive investigation into Yoo Eui Jeong’s background hoping to win her heart, further complicating the dangerous investigation due to the love triangle. Adding to the chaos, Chinese and Japanese gangs have joined forces to seize business opportunities in Seoul’s drug market.
Impressing with his action scenes, Ji Chang Wook is drawing comparisons to Chow Yun Fat (周潤發) whose breakthrough performance in A Better Tomorrow <英雄本色> is a classic among Korean fans. Netizens joke that Ji Chang Wook resembles Chow Yun Fat, “a super god who can’t be beaten,” after he saves the gang boss on numerous occasions.
Commenting on his role, Ji Chang Wook said the drama was one of his most physically intensive projects. “Since I tried my best during filming, I have no regrets. It is drama I completed happily without reservations.”
