MACC nabs married couple in driving test graft probe

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained two more suspects, a husband and wife, in its investigation of corrupt practices in computerised driving tests.

It is learnt that the 47-year-old man and 43-year-old woman are an administrative manager and a marketing manager respectively at a driving institute.

They were arrested at Johor MACC headquarters at 7pm on Monday (Oct 23) to help with the ongoing investigation.

Their detention followed the arrest of three women on Sunday (Oct 22) for allegedly accepting bribes from candidates sitting for the computerised examination as an inducement to give them a passing grade.

It is also learnt that candidates paid between RM400 and RM1,000 each to obtain a pass in the examination without even sitting for it.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests and said the couple was being investigated under the MACC Act 2009.

He reminded every learner driver to sit for the computerised test first, as it has been set as one of the conditions for obtaining a licence.

“This will help them learn and understand the rules and laws of the road,” he added.

“The company that conducts the computerised test also needs to ensure that every candidate is present and not represented by (someone else),” he added.

Azmi also said there should be no shortcuts taken in getting a driver’s licence as it involved the safety and lives of other road users.
