Young & the Restless’ Christian LeBlanc Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Says He’s In Remission Now
Christian LeBlanc of The Young and the Restless opened up about a real-life cancer diagnosis.
Fans of the beloved soap opera will know that his character Michael Baldwin was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fiction became reality in a scary way when he was diagnosed with a type of cancer called multiple myeloma in June of this year.
He opened up about the experience in a recent interview, revealing that he was in total remission and teasing his return to the set of the sudser.
Speaking to 4WWL, Christian explained that he waited to open up about his diagnosis because it “happened so fast.”
“There was a lot of me dealing with it first,” he said, noting that he lost 35 pounds while undergoing treatment for the treatable but quick-growing cancer after a tumor was found behind his eye.
“I’d never spent a day in the hospital in my 65 years until this year,” he said.
As for how he got diagnosed, Christian said that there were some worrying signs that led to him seeing a doctor who put him on the right path.
“They put my wedding ring on, Lauren and Michael’s wedding ring, and I put my hand down and the ring fell off without friction,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Well, what an odd thing.’ My nose started bleeding on set. Sometimes this eye kind of got a little wonky, because there was a tumor in the sinus cavity. If I hadn’t gone in for an eye exam, it might have progressed more. It’s a very fast cancer and that is the danger of it.”
The actor said that “fans caught it” and pointed out to him that his eye was sometimes looking wrong.
Fully recovered, Christian is gearing up to return to The Young and the Restless. His next episode is scheduled to take place around Thanksgiving on November 23.
