“I Enjoy My Life Now”: Chinese Actor-Turned-Fishmonger Li Fei, 40, To Netizens Who Mock His New Career

He says he feels blessed that he gets to spend time with his mum.

Recently, 40-year-old Chinese actor Li Fei, who now sells fish with his mum, shared on social media what his life is like as a fishmonger.

In the video, Li Fei and his mum were seen transporting baskets of fish to their roadside stall.

The first thing Li Fei does is to sweep the ground before laying out a white sheet where they place their fish.

Mother and son then start prepping for their business, which include killing and descaling the fish.

According to Li Fei, he and his mum have to head out to pick up the fish at 4am every morning. After setting up their stall, they will stay there from dawn til night regardless of the weather.

Despite the long hours, they make only a few hundred yuan a day.

“I asked my mum, ‘Is working so hard worth it?’ She only smiled and didn’t say anything. She then asked me: ‘Is it worth it?’, and I said: “Yes, because you smiled,” he said.

Li Fei said he is actually very contented with his life now.

“Many people think that since I’m not acting, my life is going downhill and that’s why I can only be a fishmonger. But I actually enjoy my life now,” he said.

He continued: “Apart from working on my own business, whenever I have time I can return home to accompany my mum. I’m so happy, I feel so blessed. I’ve been working away from home for the past 20 odd years. It was tiring, it was hard. There were heartaches and there were tears. Thankfully I did not forget my roots.”
