211 lawmakers have undergone compulsory health checks, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker
KUALA LUMPUR: Some 196 MPs and five senators have undergone their compulsory health checks as of Tuesday (Nov 7), says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
He said the deadline for the mandatory check ups have also been extended to next Tuesday (Nov 14).
“Please contact the doctor at the Parliament clinic for detailed information on this health examination and appeal for everyone to go for the health checks.
“I have also been made to understand that a lawmaker collapsed and was admitted to the hospital,” he said before the start of proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
In September, Johari announced that all MPs had to undergo a mandatory health examination by Oct 31 as a precautionary measure.
Johari added that he had witnessed 11 MPs collapsing while in the House over the past 15 years.
