Aussie climber with severe mountain sickness carried down Mt Kinabalu
KOTA KINABALU: An Australian climber who developed severe acute mountain sickness (AMS) had to be carried down from Mount Kinabalu on Saturday (Nov 11).
The 24-year-old woman was assisted by the fire department’s Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) team from the Laban Rata rest house.
A department spokesman said they earlier received a call from a mountain porter who reported a climber had severe AMS and fever at the rest house at 9.30am.
“Our Mosar team and mountain porters then helped the woman by giving her a piggyback ride to Timpohon gate (the main entrance to the summit trail),” he said.
He added that the woman was then handed over to a waiting ambulance for the next course of action.
The operation ended at 1.56pm.
