KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Iskandar Turkee was sworn in as Jepak assemblyman at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Monday (Nov 20)
Iskandar, 54, took his oath in front of Sarawak Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar at the start of the state assembly sitting.
The ceremony was witnessed by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and other state assemblymen.
After the swearing-in, Asfia congratulated Iskandar for winning the Jepak seat in the Nov 4 by-election.
Iskandar took a landslide victory in a three-cornered fight against Stevenson Joseph Sumbang (Parti Bumi Kenyalang) and Chieng Lea Phing (Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party).
He polled 9,638 votes to win with a majority of 8,784 votes.
The by-election was called when Jepak incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip passed away on Sept 15.
