Ali Lee’s Face Blurred Out In TVB’s Broadcast Of Anniversary Gala In China For 2nd Year Running, Still Very Much Cancelled In The Mainland
What can the 41-year-old actress do to get back in Beijing’s good graces?
Looks like TVB actress Ali Lee is still cancelled in China after allegedly expressing pro-Hong Kong democracy views in 2019.
For a second consecutive year, the 41-year-old’s face was blurred out during the broadcast of the TVB Anniversary Gala in China.
The event was held last Sunday (Nov 19).
During singer Priscilla Chan’s performance, the camera panned to the stars who were on stage and captured a close-up of Ali.
However, Ali’s face was blurred out, with the camera cutting away abruptly.
She was also noticeably missing from images shared by TVB on its official Weibo page, only visible in group shots taken from a distance.
Even then, netizens pointed out that she was relegated to stand at the side, while Ruco Chan, Moon Lau and Kelly Cheung took the prime spots in the centre.
This didn’t sit well with Ali’s fans with one commenting, “So pitiful! Why isn’t Ali standing in the middle?”
Another said: “Ali might as well not attend the show. That position in the group shot is too far off [from where she is supposed to be].”
Last year, Ali was also edited out of the TVB Anniversary Gala.
When Ali and Ruco Chan walked the red carpet, the live stream suddenly switched to a promotional video of TVB’s upcoming dramas. Her face was also blurred out in audience shots.
When netizens searched for ‘Ali Lee’ on Chinese search engines, the results showed “The content you’re looking for is not legal and cannot be submitted”, sparking speculation that the actress has been cancelled in China.
