The father of Heavenly King Andy Lau, Lau Li, has died.

“To my dear family: My father passed away peacefully on the 20th surrounded by family,” read a statement said to be from the Heavenly King.

Andy’s dad was believed to be 89. The cause of death was not disclosed.

As a tribute to Andy’s dad, the website was switched to black and white. Many fans also left messages of condolences for the star.

Andy later added that the family is taking care of the funeral arrangements and thanked everyone for their concern.

Andy is very close to his parents

Andy, the fourth in a family of six kids, is known to be a filial son. Despite his busy schedule, he would make time to spend important holidays with his family.

Up until five years ago, he was reportedly still living with his parents.

Andy once mentioned that his dad is the person he respects most.

A former firefighter in his younger days, papa Lau later opened a snack shop to support his family.

It was rumoured that Andy bought his dad a roast meat shop for his birthday because the latter liked to eat char siew.

In 2003, the elder Lau suffered bladder cancer but recovered after the tumour was surgically removed.
