GEORGE TOWN: Civil servants in Penang will receive special financial aid of either half a month’s salary or a minimum of RM1,000 by the end of this year.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the aid is being extended to 3,867 civil servants in the state as gratitude for their dedicated and committed service.

He said the initiative, which would be paid in December, would cost the state government some RM6.045mil.

“Penang is grateful to have a civil service team which is dedicated, committed and of integrity.

“In appreciation, I proposed a half-month salary or a minimum of RM1,000 as special financial aid to some 3,867 civil servants in the state, which will have a financial implication of RM6.045mil,” he said during his Budget 2024 speech during the state legislative assembly sitting here on Friday (Nov 24).

In his two-hour speech, Chow also announced aid of RM300 each to Kafa supervisors and teachers of SR Agama Rakyat and SM Agama Rakyat, to teachers and staff of Chinese private schools, as well as to tahfiz and sekolah pondok teachers.

“It will cost the state government a further RM1.005mil,” he said, adding that payment will be made next month as well.

In total, Chow said both initiatives would cost the state RM7.05mil.
