Melaka hotels look abroad for Christmas decoration ideas

MELAKA: The competition to unveil the most interesting Christmas decorations among hotels here has begun.

One hotelier even flew to London to get inspiration and order ornaments in a bid to create Yuletide fairyland vibes.

Shah Beach Resort’s general manager Dennis Samford said he made a trip overseas to look for hand-painted Christmas art, toy soldiers and lights.

“I hope to bring this festive season to a new height with intriguing ornaments and also to invite Europeans to celebrate Christmas holidays in Melaka,” he said in an interview on Sunday (Nov 26).

Samford said he left for London last week and would return early next month.

“I am also here to order these decorations for my other hotelier friends too who are equally eager to showcase their best Christmas decorations,” he said.

Sanford said local hotels are competing to present their properties in the best possible Christmas-themed decorations and few of them want to make a difference this year by transforming their premises into the talk of the town by having fresh ornaments and even Yuletide menus.

“It’s the norm for Melaka hotels to decorate for Christmas every year but some of us want to do it better this year,” he said.

Hatten Hotel has also revealed its early Christmas decorations and menus.

Hatten Hotels Worldwide’s group general manager Datuk Chuck Kassim said the hotel has displayed the largest “Teddy Bear” in its lobby area.

Meanwhile, Ames general manager Jason R. Bak said his team was currently working to decorate a 6m-tall Christmas tree.

“We are doing our best to make our property illuminate with lights and turn our hotel into a Yuletide wonderland,” he added.
